Gravity model is a very popular econometric model in international trade. In this lecture we will consider three symbolic gravity models developed in top literatures in recent two decades: Armington model of Anderson and van Wincoop (AER,2003), Dixit-Sitiglitz-Krugman model of Bergstrand, Egger and Larch (JIE,2013) as well as Ricardian model of Eaton and Kortum (Econometrica,2002). We will analyze the difference in terms of model structure and application scenes in detail and lay a basic foundation for our series of lectures in coming days.
